I have used Canon for 40+ years. My current camera is the EOS 1DS Mark III. I bought this new and love the camera. I shoot mostly landscapes. My photography today is changing and I need more dynamic range. The Canons maximum ISO is 3200 and there is a lot of noise to deal with. The Sony I have selected is the new Alpha 7R IV. I purchased two lenses, Both G master lenses. The Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS and the Sony SEL24-70mm GM. I expect the camera around Oct 15. Can someone tell me; am I going to be happy with the Sony? This has left a big hole in the coffers, so to those that use the earlier models of the Alpha 7R series, is there something you couldn't live without for your Sony camera?
PS... I am also looking at the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Wide-angle Zoom. Is this a good choice or is there something else I overlooked.
I respect everyone's opinion here. Canon users, please don't lambast me and tell me I have made a big mistake. The deed is done, I'm switching to Sony.

Seems prudent to have asked the question before pulling the trigger on the Sony.

Well that was helpful.

I get annoyed when folks respond in that manner with nothing to contribute. Like on Amazon when a reviewer posts, "I can't review cause I never read the book" . G-r-rr

I switch from Canon to Sony when the original A7R came out and have been more than happy. I own the 16-35mm and you will need a wide angle lens for landscapes. I also own the Laowa 15mm F2 lens and can highly recommend this lens "manual focus" lens instead of the 16-35 because you will have 24mm and above covered. Another must have is Capture One for Sony. When the dust settles I may even upgrade to the A7RIV.

I made the switch from a Canon 70d to a Sony a7riii late last year. The dynamic range of the camera is surreal. The Mc-11 has worked for me. But I have replaced most of my glass with Sony. I went with the 24-105 rather than the 24-70. I would also look at the 17-28 Tamron; I got that instead of the Sony and have been pleased as well - not a lot of photos so far, ut really nice for the money. I have an old Series one 90 macro Nikon AI mount which also works. Downside - learning curve menu and the large files really eat up space. Also learning curve for Capture One - consensus is it is the best way of getting the most out of Sony. Good luck!

I don't really know if Chevy rules or not but I currently own a Silverado 2500HD and an Equinox Premier and my previous two cars were a Cruze Premier Hatchback and a really nice Sonic.

There is nothing deep down inside us that can't be fixed by a new camera.

Not a darn thing wrong about switching. My guess that Sony will have a pro level camera out real soon due to the Olympics in Japan 2020. Soo will Canon. Nikon just released information about their top end camera and there are hints about Canon as well. Mirrorless Sony cameras have improved and made great strides. An A9 my have been my choice but you did well...choices of lenses too.
There is a new Canon R body coming out that will fill a hole, more megapixels than Sony, the new lens line plus the older L group. But what you have is worth having to use now. Waiting, wishing and hoping on the future of what Canon might or might not do is foolish! You did good.

I switched to Sony and could not be happier. Well, if I won the lottery I would but that is another story.
