I found this article by Thom Hogan where he took a Nikon Z6 & Z7 on safari. He wrote about his experience shooting with them. I found it pretty interesting since I'd been interested in the Z6 for awhile. http://www.sansmirror.com/newsviews/2019-mirrorless-camera/july-september-2019-mirrorl/a-nikon-mirrorless-safari.html

After reading that, I have one question. Did you place your order yet?

Thanks for posting this, I read the whole article. His shots and commentary were great and prove those 2 Nikons are worthwhile cameras.

I'm still trying to figure out why Thom Hogan wrote this article....why wouldn't Nikon Z cameras survive a African safari?

A.Probably because that's one of the ways he makes his living. Writing articles about photography equipment.
B.Haven't there been many fans of other brands questioning the Z's? Now we know how the Zs can handle Africa.

I think the article was wrote more for if the Z's autofocus would be good enough to keep up on safari. A lot of reviews have said they are now as good as a dslr. The cameras being able to survive a safari was just filler for his article.

Thanks for posting that article!

Just wait a little while the price will come down. Or buy a refurbished model.

Very interesting. I'm not ready to toss all my Nikon DSLRs over the cliff yet but the idea of killer shots from smaller and lighter gear is pretty compelling. Thanks, Matt.

Thom probably had more reason to write the article than you had to write this post. His writings are at the very least somewhat informative and often interesting. Your post, not so much,

I did read and enjoy the article and the pictures that accompanied it. Thanks Matt for posting the link.

I am not sold yet, I own the Z6 and the D850 plus D500. My experience is different and the two biggest objections I have with the Z6 are (1) in low light situations with a moving subject the Z6 has difficulty achieving auto focus where my DSLR's grab focus right away, (2) when the camera goes to sleep to conserve the battery it wakes up very slow and yes i have the fastest wake up time in the menu.

Matt, thanks for posting. His comment regarding the comparison to Sony is telling. Not better..not worse...but good enough for the job.

How can you not be sold, operator error maybe? I was sold on the Z's from the day I bought um, even before the updated firmware. I too own the D850, D500, & a D5...more and more I find myself grabbing the Zed's... Good to see one who actually knows how to put a body through it's paces and knows what he's talking about.

I'll buy your D850, Offer me a great deal! I've got the D500 and D610 but I keep hearing great things about the 850.
