Cicada Face

This is a focus stacked magnified view of the Cicada's face. I found the mouth part to be interesting. I have read that they can live from 2-years to more than 17-years before they become adults which then they may only live a few months.

This session was another experiment using pastel gradient paper behind the subject as a background. This image was taken with a 50mm reverse mounted enlarger lens mounted on a helicoid extension tube and adjusted in length and magnification until its head filled the frame of the camera.

Yes, it was the inspiration for the front of an expensive car.... complete with grill, medallions center of the hood and those bulging headlights. I and always wondered where the auto designers got their creative ideas. Yep, direct from nature. Even the old Caddie Tail fins direct from sharks
