Chime in, please, to answer my question to myself:"Am I too much in love with the moon reflection, so much so that I ignore the faults with this photo?"

That is pretty cool. The lights and clutter in the foreground is distracting though. You could clone away the lights and the tops of the trees and crop the bottom so the curving light fills the bottom.

Methinks you know the answer to your question.

It is not what I think but what you, the artist, thinks that is important.

Depending on how much "digital art" you are willing to do, the capture can be the beginning or the end of a creation.

Just saying.

To me the foreground stuff is legitimate context and added interest. However, if it was mine I'd shorten the distance between the moon and the horizon. As it is the moon is just a bit too detached from its reflection and the rest of the scene.

Thank you for the comment so far. However, R.G., lowering the moon would make too much work for me, trying to get the reflection right.

If you're a photoshopper, the content aware move tool is a snap. In same box with the healing brush. The color and structure sliders let you get it just right. Not that I'm saying you should, just that you can. I'd give the reflection more prominence with cropping, allowing it to fill a greater portion of the frame.

After much"reflection," Bob I think you are OK. The foreground lights seem to be trying to compete with the master in the sky and there is a lot of depth in the picture. I like it.

I like the moon's reflection it is nice. What if you were to crop off the top so that the horizon about 2/3 up in the frame? That changes the aspect ratio making it wider, more like 16:9. You can see the effect by scrolling the image up/down on the computer.

Yes that might work. Feel free to modify my photo to show me precisely what you mean. We have to account for what would be a different reflection on the water if the moon is moved.

Hi Bob,

I am not a Photoshop pro but below is what I had in mind. I burned down the highlights of the street lights and also the sky a bit, and cloned out the bright spots. Yes the reflection has no source but we know it is from the moon.

Thank you for the opportunity to view and comment, and to modify your photo. (I need the PS practice!)

I am glad you gave me a chance to show you the idea. Thank you. It is not polished just a concept. I feel like that crop puts more emphasis on the reflection.

If you like it then most of all, please have fun with it!

I am late to the party but here is my take. Basically it is a toning down of the foreground so it doesn't overpower the beauty of the moon, sky and sea reflection, bringing the moon down so it seems more inclusive to the scene and adding some horizon "cloudiness" to blend the removed sky section. I hope I have not abused your willingness to let me "play" with your already alluring image.

No problem—I like your version. My only problem is that the reflection on the water would be different, but I think most would not notice nor care.
