We usually just pass thru Lone Pine on our way to the Eastern Sierra lakes and some relaxing days of fly fishing. This time we stopped at this gem of a town and did some exploring. Lone Pine is just a few hours north of Los Angeles and Hollywood. In the early days of film and continuing on into the 50’s and 60’s Lone Pine was a go-to filming location for everyone from Tom Mix to Randolf Scott and James Stewart. Oh ya, all those B westerns were shot here with the likes of John Wayne, Audie Murphy and Lash Larue. But some major motion pictures were filmed here too. How the West Was Won and Gunga Din just to name 2. Not to forget also the numerous TV shows that used this location for filming. So we had to tour the Film Museum and while doing so I found an item that quite a few of you may remember.
We also went out to the Alabama Hills to explore them a bit too. Second photo is Mt Whitney from the Hills. #3 is from Highway 395 just a bit north of the Lone Pine Visitors Center. The last ones are from up in the Alabama Hills.

I took that as a couple of dead cows, and the frog to the top left of them..... There is also an elephant in the photo.......
I think you are mistaking Mt. Whitney in photo 2. Mt. Whitney is seen in photo #3 at the far right of the image.

Anything is possible. I’ve been known to be wrong often.
Nice shots--I still have one of those Hopalong Cassidy cameras--still works.
Beautiful images and interesting narrative!
