Other “Bridge” Cameras

We all know what the classic bridge camera is, the ones that resemble a DSLR, but have a lens fixed to the body, and it’s usually a superzoom lens. But what about other types, like the high end compact cameras? I put it that way because the classic point and shoot camera is not only small, but lacks many of the usual controls found on higher end cameras. For example, the Nikon S8200 I gave my granddaughter has few controls and only allows shooting in full auto mode. There’s no PASM modes. That I would classify as a point and shoot because that’s pretty much all you can do.

But what about cameras like the Panasonic Lumix ZS series—ZS 70, 80, 100 and 200, or the Sony RX100 series. Canon has some really sophisticated compact cameras, like the G7XII and III, GX-5 II, and GX1 mkIII. I have a Canon G16 that takes some pretty remarkable images and has all the controls that many MILC’s and DSLR’s have. Can these be called a bridge cameras? If so, I’d post some of the photos I’ve take with the G16, and I’m considering selling my Sony A6300 and lenses and getting the Sony RX100 VI or VIII.

I have a Canon G1X M III. Sold to me by a Minneapolis camera shop 18 months ago.
I do like many of its features. I am an advanced amateur, mainly shooting family and travel photos, both landscape and interiors of some dark places. I am happy with its low light ability. I love the fully articulated touchscreen plus the diopter correctable viewfinder. I like the ability to screw on a circular polarizer. The wrist strap is very useful.
The bad: It is somewhat large and heavy at 14 ounces. A lot bigger than my pocketable G9X MI. It was a little hard to find a belt case for it, and that is large. The zoom is only 24-72. But I don’t do wildlife.
Conclusion: I appreciate that UHH has taught me that all cameras are a compromise. I think think the G1X MIII is a great compromise. I was looking at the Sony RX100 M VI, which gets such great reviews. But figured I am too old to learn the Sony menu structure, which all reviews state is more complicated.
Thanks to UHH.
