I took this old snap, something I shot from old iPhone as a possible resource for something in a painting, and saw possibilities today to make it into something that emphasized the idea. Do you think the post-processing is good, and, especially, is it a good photograph?

The snapshot is included.

Processing was done in Photoshop. If it is not clear by what technique a result was achieved, please ask. I might even remember.

It is an interesting photograph.
My preference is for image #1, as the colour looks more natural.

Mixed emotions--I prefer the aspect of the original, but the processing of the result. A combination of the two . . . .

Sorry, I don't see anything but an out of focus guy walking up some stairs.

An honest response--for a change. Refreshing.

I do like the PP effort, but am left cold with the photo itself. Not sure where to look with the competing angles, blurry subject, etc.

So, you think people who look at composition are dishonest?

It is obvious you are on the side of the seeing spectrum that looks for obvious "story". That is, of course, fine. However, you exclude all that has been called "Art" for millennia. THAT includes technique, composition, color.....If you don't get it, that's fine, but perhaps you should not insult others who do.

Thanks, all, for the comments. They help me make better photos as I weigh what I thought I had done with what others perceive.

I like it very much.....

Yes, the post-processing is good, and yes, it is a good photograph. The more I look at it the more I like it. Very nice transition from the realistic stairs to the painterly figure of the person. The skewed near-vertical lines somehow add emphasis to the "oldness" of the man.

I keep wanting to tinker with the cropping, maybe bringing in the left side to eliminate the lower post of the stair railing. Or, I wonder how it would look if you totally eliminated the lower stair railing!? It would emphasize one possible story line - moving from independent ascent to needing a handrail at the later stage.

Am I getting carried away again? Maybe it's time to quit....

I like it very much..... br br Yes, the post-proc... (show quote)

Nah, don't quit. Exploring possibilities until you find the best is very creative. Feel free to modify my photos to show what you mean.

Thanks for the offer Bob, but I'm still learning photo editing (Affinity) and am trying to work my way through the maze of layers, masks, selections, etc. I got a long way to go....

I am not normally a fan of the "Dutch Angle" but I think it works in the first image. I like the grain on the stairs as well.

Have you tried this as a black and white image? I think the first one would be a great image in monotones.

Andy, as always, I prefer seeing what you mean. Feel free to modify my photos. Here's my take on your suggestion. I think it's a good suggestion.

As an idea for a painting, maybe. As a photograph, there isn’t much here to get excited about.

I'm interested in what excites you, and what standards you have for photographs, as I can picture many that are not exciting. Thanks in advance.
