Drove out to the Jacques Cartier Park yesterday, just north of Quebec City. It is fairly large park (269 sq. miles) in the Laurentian mountains. A beautiful day with sunshine and enough clouds to make it interesting. Spent a good deal of my time there hiking, as they have some excellent hiking trails. Here are a few shots.

Cindy, Thank you kindly for your comment! It is a beautiful area. My favorite season there is the fall when the leaves turn.

Very nice set, John! I am only familiar with the Laurentians from skiing Grey Rocks in the old days.

Mike, Many thanks! It really is a beautiful place. What makes it so attractive for me is its proximity to Quebec City. Even though I live on the south shore, if I avoid rush hour, I can be there in just over half an hour. I haven't explored most of the more remote and rugged parts of the park which are accessible on foot, although some of the trails are listed as difficult. There are all kinds of activities in the park, ranging from rafting, kayaking and canoeing, to hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing and even a long skating rink in the winter. They also have cottages that can be rented. All run by the government. John

Mike,
Just wanted to add, that the third shot is of a tributary that runs into the main Jacques Cartier river. There is a sign beside the river, at the entrance to the park, that warns of the danger of kayaking. At this time the river is too low, but I guess that in the spring, during the spring melt, it must be considerably higher. The whole river has a fairly steep descent and is a jumble of rocks, as you can see. I can't imagine attempting that with any kind of a water craft. But, then again, maybe it's just my age. John
