I know that some build their own and would like some ideas. My dell is starting to shut down and not boot correctly

I had one built and the great thing is its not loaded down with a bunch of programs you don't need or want.

I don't know if this will work where you live, but while I lived in L.A. there were many small PC stores, family owned Mom & Pop type places and local chains that maybe owned just a couple stores. I bought PCs from them because you could spec. every single part for them to build a PC and their prices were very close to what just the parts would've cost you (even with good on-line prices). It's worth checking out because it avoids the many small problems you have to work out yourself when you buy parts from 5 different places and integrate them yourself (which can be kind of fun if you're in the mood and have time to spare).

If you build yourself,
Asus makes nice motherboards,
Corsair makes nice power supplies,
Every Logitech accessory I ever bought worked out real well.
Other companies make good stuff too, but I favor major name brands. Good Luck.

Possibly more economical to Buy a 'sale ' item or refurbished 2nd hand.(cleaned and wiped)
Windows is a generic operating system...it needs no special hardware.
Better to decide what you want the PC for.....Predominantly, and get a spec that satisfies that.

Maybe your problem is with your virus protection. Since I've started using BitDefender my computer has worked seamlessly. Big problems when I used McAfee.

This is an excellent piece of advice and it will save you a fortune in time and money.

My condolences.

I'd never own another windows box if it was the last OS on earth. (well...maybe then)

Are you going to build it yourself? Have you built computers before? Its not hard to put together your own computer. I have been building PC's for myself and others since the mid 90's. The reason I build my own is that I can build it using the parts I want to use, not what Dell, HP, or any other builder puts in. Also, lots of computers are built for specifically for a certain use, such as gaming. If you want a computer to use for photography, then that is what it should be built for.

To price out components, go to PCpartpicker.com https://pcpartpicker.com/ You can view their build guides and use their system builder to spec out and price your build. I usually buy all of my components from Newegg or B&H.

If you have never built your own computer before, it may seem like a daunting task. Maybe you have a friend or relative that can help you with the build.

Good luck in what you decide to do.

I thought about building one, too.
Then I told my wife.
She gave me one of her “looks.”
I went to the kitchen and grabbed a beer☹️

I built my own when I couldn't customize offerings from any of the major to suit my preferences--I was looking for a machine that wouldn't choke on video files in Photoshop Premier Elements. Anyway, I ended up building what amounted to gaming computers (I built two); I would suggest you think along the same lines if you want to edit your photos. I wouldn't use anything but a Windows 10 Pro system; Apple products can't touch them in the same price categories, and you are not stuck with a crippled file system.

I went with Asus for the machine I use now, for the motherboard and for the video cards; match your video cards to what you want ( I use four monitors; when I built, the best way seemed to be to use two cards--I have the Windows desktop extended over all four), and match your power supply to the total equipment you will run (I ended up with a 1200-watt one for my current computer). I suggest you consider a system with mirrored hard drives (I have two sets of two, one for the OS and programs, and the other for all data (including pictures); most nowadays prefer to use SSDs for the OS and programs. Get as much memory as you can--I will go to 128 Gb the next time I build--more memory really speeds up everything; I think most Adobe products make use of multiple cores/threads for speed and efficiency. Make sure your memory is listed as compatible with your motherboard (manufacturer websites will have compatible equipment lists). Your case has to hold everything, and a cooling system if you need it (I didn't--I don't overclock or play games).

The actual assembly is not hard, but it can be daunting. Online videos can be a real help, and the manufacturers usually have some video help as well. Follow the instructions carefully, and be sure you understand them (Google any terms you don't understand and make sure you realize what applies to your system) before you do anything. Good luck!

This is too big a question to get answered here.

There are a zillion possibilities of cases, motherboards, CPUs, video adapters, drives, and all the other variables in hardware that you could choose from.

Consult with someone who builds computers. Determine what you will need the computer to do. There are general-purposes machines (internet, office suite , email use), gaming systems, video editing systems, bitcoin-mining systems, to name a few specialties.

This takes a lot of thought and planning.
