Hi Peeps, I have at the moment I have a 120gb SSD drive as my C drive (main drive) and its running out of storage space. I'ts only got 7Gb of space left.

So I've just ordered another SSD drive, this time a 480Gb (550 write/510 read), I only use this drive for windows and apps/programs, I have another 7 internal drives for data storage.

So the question is, is there a free cloning program that I can use to transfer the contents of my current C drive to the replacement 480Gb drive, to save me re-installing windows and all the associated programs, many thanks to all who reply

When I bought the Samsung SSD a few years ago, it came with cloning software and a cable. It works only with a Samsung SSD, though.

Here are free and non-free programs.

I'll throw my vote to Clonezilla. I've used it several times without an issue.

I also used the free version of Macrium recently to clone twp 1 TB hard drives to two SSD drives for my desktop and my wife’s laptop. Easy to use and worked flawlessly.

Many thanks to all you lovely hoggers that supplied the software solutions, the new replacement drive should be here in a couple of days, then I’ll try the free progs first and see what happens, again thanks

Although, personally I would start from scratch, using the disk change as an opportunity to have a clean Windows install with only the apps that you are actually using.

Hi Juan, what your saying may actually become the case, with the amount of software I have on “C” I’m looking at the easiest way around the change, but thanks for your input

I am a bit of a "digital hoarder", both of programs and data, so when I upgrade computer or main drive, I take that chance and use it as a clean beginning.

But, if you prefer to clone, using Clonezilla as suggested, it's a good option.

Good luck on any option you take and keep in mind that in worst case scenario you would still have the current drive to recover any data.

If you are running a desktop or a laptop that has a space for a second drive, I highly suggest the following.
Install your new drive and configure it as a "D" drive.
Copy all of you photos to the new drive leaving the "C" drive to just run the OS.

Now you do not need to reinstall anything.

Hi, all my pc’s have 7 drives (singular stand alone drives, NOT partitions) including this one, the problem is that my “C” drive is a 120Gb SSD drive which now only has 7% of space left, each of the other drives have their own designated data purpose’s.

NONE of my C drives, on any of my pc’s have any data on stored on them.

At the worst way, with the new 480Gb drive, I can format (NTFS) and install Windows 7 and all my associated software, no problems really, only the time factor involved

Sorry, I misunderstood. You stated you were running out of storage space on the 'C' drive.
All you need to do is Clone the new larger drive with the data that currently resides on your 'C' drive.
One of the easiest products I have found is the Apricorn EZ Gig IV. You have a choice of USB 2 or 3.
