Welcome Norma. It seems apparent that the masses here on the ‘Hog’ are still not quite open to phones with cameras. But, there may be a reason for starting the name with “Ugly” ... LOL ... I have a new Sony Mirrorless and love it. AND I carry iPhones as well. Without them I would have missed several good images. It is another tool for us to use, so don’t become discouraged. I also suggest to look into the App Store under Photography, there you will find several apps to encourage your creative side, and later eventually take ownership of a newer DSLR or mirrorless system. Get creative, enjoy, and learn to develop your new passion. I’ll try to add a shot or two of mine for you to see. Share yours too.
Welcome Norma. It seems apparent that the masses ... (show quote)

What is a valid reason to use cell phones as cameras is the fact that we carry them anywhere. Quality wise they are not for big enlargements but we do not do that everyday. You will be in "auto" all the time with the cell phone so if you really want to explore photography and make better images you need to study the basics and buy an entry level camera that will give you better quality.

Welcome Norma:

My IPhone isn’t my primary piece(s) of kit, but I have definitely caught some good quality shots that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. A camera is a camera etc etc.

Carry on, enjoy and please post some shots...

Totally agree!
A smartphone is 1st a Phone, for speaking, hearing, and Texting, then if something of interest or something possibly unexpected presents itself, in a moment of time, and a regular Digital Camera is unavailable, then yes, that Smartphone may become a Camera.
But adding "Creativity" with a Smartphone is less achievable, than a with a DSLR or Mirrorless Camera.

Welcome! Have fun with your phone camera and show Ugly Hedgehog what you can do! There are apps and also special add-on lenses most Hogs here have no experience with! I enjoy the challenges of using my Sony mirrorless (like a DSLR in many ways,) but always take a few phone shots to share quickly and to have something from an outing or event in case my ‘real’ photos are a complete bust!
