So I have decided to try photography.. I have always been interested and am now able to try it and see if it fits who i am. I really only am starting because I recently purchased a canon rebel t5 for a more than fair price... so anything that anyone can offer assistance or advice with would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Welcome to the forum.

Live with your Canon, keep it with you at all times and shoot everything that is of interest. Eventually, you;ll find your voice.
Don't buy anything else!!!
Use what you have until you figure out you are not getting in the camera what you see in your mind's eye.
Until you reach that point (100's of photos), you will probably be throwing money away buying the wrong gear.
I spent years shooting doing photojournalism with a normal lens, a telephoto zoom, a 2X teleconverter and a small flash.
You don't need gear, you need practice.
If you want to send me half the money you just saved, go ahead, I'm nearing retirement! <~~ (hereby clearly labeled as a joke)
Keep shooting and HAVE FUN!!!

Welcome. Practice is cheap and fun with digital!
Welcome to UHH. Use the camera you have and just keep shooting with it. Practice, practice, practice.

My favorite quote: "Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst." (Henri Cartier-Bresson). Practice, practice, practice! It'll take some time, but, boy, is it fun! Welcome!
