I think the term bridge camera originally had more to do with the shape/style of the camera than it did with the zoom length of the lens. It sort of morphed into the superzooms when they discovered that using a small sensor allowed for putting in a lens with a long zoom range.

The term bridge camera came about because those types of cameras are a bridge between point and shoot and multi function interchangeable lens cameras. A bridge camera is a multi function digital camera that doesn't have a removable lens. Most, if not all, super zooms can be considered bridge cameras but not all bridge cameras are super zooms.

...and that is what I have understood to be the correct definition.
