Geology happening on US 191
Would be interesting to see what is held within the falling rock but getting close could be lethal.

What's within is just more jurassic sandstone, probably the entrada formation. --it outcrops throughout the four corners region. For scale, The bushes along the skyline are waist-high junipers. Somewhere along the miles of cliffs thereabouts small rocks are falling almost constantly but big slabs like this come down rarely, urged to let go mostly by freezing/thawing moisture.
I'm in Maryland and once worked where I drove through three states to get to work, all were very close together like driving around the corner of a state and into the other then to one more. Anyhow this area called Harper's Ferry had tall mountain sides that dropped rocks all the time as water would drip down it's rocks. One winter leaving work and heading home I came across a giant rock in my side of the road about five feet in diameter. It was eery as I was driving a Mazda Miata at the time (a small rag top car). That same year again driving home a black cow crossed the road near work and when it was hit it went right into the windshield killing everyone in the front seat. I had worked late that day and somehow missed the event. All I could think of is that should have been me. Afterwards I decided to not drive the Miata anymore and switched to my truck. Honestly, never had a problem that hurt the truck. I have a small car now but should go back to a used truck. LOL

If allowed to do so, everything on the face of the planet, including, and maybe especially, water. will do its best to head directly for the center of the earth. --Living with this is kind of a crapshoot.
Good reminder, optic...
Geologic change is ALWAYS happening!

Just one tiny step step in Mother Nature's long term program to turn our rocky, bumpy planet into a sphere as smooth as a Cue Ball!
The forces of nature manifest from within as well as without. Climate wears surface features down, but tectonic forces give rise to huge volcanoes and ravaging earthquakes which create more bumps on earth's surface to be worn down again by the action of water and, nowadays, by the corrosive atmospheric effects of nitrous oxides and acid rains. Geological forces as well as the unforgiving impact of never-ending flowing water gave rise to the Grand Canyon, but also to the mountain chain stretching from the Andes northward to the Rockies. Some geologists have described our planet as a huge orange with bumpy skin. And we photographers benefit hugely by witnessing and preserving images of this natural conflict.
