Asking opinions about an Upgrade to my Canon 60D.

I stopped by a 'Shutterbug Camera' store in Santa Rosa yesterday to ask about upgrading to the Canon 80D, and was shown this camera (T7i), and was mightily impressed with the smaller size, lighter weight and many new features that outweigh my current 60D - - -

Apparently, this even 'outweighs' the features on the 80D as well, so I'm asking for thoughts and Opinions, from any 'Hedgehogs' who can offer some advice. - Thanks in advance, - Pat

The T7i is the middle of the 7 series + T7, T7i, 77D.
The 80D is better built and partly weather sealed. The 77D is the replacement for the T6s from the 6 series. It is not really part of the xxD series, it is the top of the Rebel line.
If weather sealing and a stronger built body is not important than I would suggest the 77D over the T7i. More features and controls. Maybe they have a lot of T7i in stock or have a bit better profit margin.
If you can wait a while and save your money later this month Canon is announcing some new cameras including a rumored replacement for both the 80D and 7DII. Rumors are calling it the 90D. Prices for the 80Ds should drop.
What ever you do that 60D your are used to will make a nice backup or use it to teach photography to a family member.

The T7i is a bit smaller, most won't notice it, a bit lighter but at the expense of build and weather sealing (it has none), it has the Digic 7 processor vs the Digic 6 in the 80D but most won't notice any difference. It's batteries don't last as long as the bigger 80D battery and you can get both Canon and third party battery grips for the 80D to double battery life and add portrait mode controls (no contortionist tricks to shoot portrait). It's sensor is a year newer and goes to higher ISO, but when have you shot at the 80Ds 16000 ISO let alone the T7i's 25600? The 80D has a brighter viewfinder, higher fps and higher shutter speed.

I own and use 5DIV, 7DII and 80D. My wife has a T6s.

Look at the Canon EOS M50. It's small and well featured and with a Viltrox EF-EOS M2 adapter, will use all EF mount lenses and will emulate a full frame camera. If you prefer APS-C then go with standard adapter for all EF and EF-S mount lenses.

Doesn't the 80D have pentaprism viewfinder and the T7i has a pentamirror viewfinder? Pentaprism viewfinders are superior. The glass prism inside gives a larger, slightly brighter view through the viewfinder.

With the 80D you would also have autofocus microadjustment. The T7i has no microadjustment.

The T series are Rebel level, the entry group. The 77D is actually the top of that group and is priced today the same as the T7i.

The 60D was from a higher group which now has the 80D. That, along with the 7DII are the top of the Canon APS-C cameras.

Both the 7DII and 80D are to be replaced later this month, 'tho they will still be current for a while.

For what it is worth I went from the 50D to the 5D Mark IV. I love my 50D and still use it. All my lenses are FF so I didn’t have to buy any new lenses.

I own a T7i and I love it. No regrets. It has great low light/ low noise capabilities and has the dual crosshairs (?) auto focus that is extraordinary.

The T7i is a nice, well featured crop-sensor camera. However, I would recommend looking at either the 77D or 80D before purchasing the T7i. The 77D has some additional features, including the top LCD screen, which the T7i does not, and is currently selling for about the same price. The 77D is smaller than the 80D and a bit lighter. I have a 77D and love it. The Auto-focus system is excellent on the 77D. It has more advanced low light capability and a newer processor than the 80D. The 80D does have the Pentaprism viewfinder, which didn't seem to make a big difference to me when I was comparing both models prior to my purchase almost two years ago. It also has some weather sealing, which the 77D does not. You'll have to consider which features are most important to you. All three are excellent cameras with great features, and I don't think you could go wrong with any of the three. All three also have significantly advanced features over your current 60D. The Canon rumors about an 80D replacement have been out there for quite a while, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a 90D.

The 90D is coming out at the end of month.
The Canon official marketing film is out and should be no more than a week or so.

That may be true, but nothing official has been released yet regarding a date or model number, still only rumors and leaks. The marketing video you mentioned is an apparent leak.

Actually there are several out there today but beyond your bitter capability to admit that you are confused, wrong and called out on it.
