I ran across this guy when I was trying to catch a salmon in Valdez, Alaska. As usual, I was doing a lot more fishing than catching. When this guy came wandering down the beach inspecting the catches everyone backed off and gave him plenty of space. Since I wasn't catching anything anyway I went to the car and stowed my fishing gear away and grabbed my camera. I followed him up the beach for about 1/2 mile taking photos all the time. Turns out, all he really wanted was caviar. Every time he caught a fish he would step on it and squeeze the eggs out and leave the fish flopping around on the rocks. Downloads look good.

Great set, Chief. Glad you had better success with the camera than the rod.

Good set! So, Chief, a society bear? Just fish was not enough.

Thanks, NMGal. Don't know what that's all about. I used to catch fish all the time, lately- not so much. But the bear sure knew what he was doing.

Thank you, Mike. Yeah, he was turning his nose up at salmon fillets in coolers all the way up the beach. He seemed to be disappointed with the silly humans who didn't know what the good stuff was.

Another great set Chief!!! Great to have the camera to fall back on when the fish aren't on the bite, well done!

Thanks, but they were on the bite for everyone else on the beach. Just not for me. But I'll take the shots I got for a consolation prize any day.
I actually got about a hundred shots. He was very accommodating. He kept approaching me but I backed away and he would find something to distract him. He was never aggressive, just curious I think. He was just a youngster, probably his first year without mommy.

Thanks. It really wasn't much of a disappointment, kind of expected these days If I was as big and bad as the bear I could have just grabbed some fillets out of coolers as I made my way down the beach. But, yeah. I'll take the photos all day long. I can always buy salmon for dinner. I'm glad you liked the photos.
