Hong Kong Chaos. A City Of 7.5 Million Residents

Hong Kong has been a tourist attraction for millions who have traveled there in past decades. It was my late mother's first trip abroad, along with Singapore, some 20+ years ago. She really enjoyed that trip. I have also talked to Vietnam Veterans, who went there for R&R. They said Hong Kong was a fun city to visit. And a paradise for shopping all types of goods. Hong Kong was under the jurisdiction of the British until 1997, when the Chinese Mainland Government took over. The Mainland Government said it would respect its sovereignty for 50 years. Hong Kong would have freedoms that Mainland China would not have. Then, all of a sudden, the Mainland Chinese Government, issued a proclamation, that citizens of Hong Kong, could be extradited to Mainland China to be tried or jailed there, for conduct it considered to be a threat to the Government. Naturally, that didn't sit well with the citizens of Hong Kong. Protests and rioting have become commonplace there for about 10 weeks straight. And, the Airport was temporarily shut down, because of the protests. American Intelligence, has revealed, that Chinese Army Troops have now assembled at the borders of Hong Kong. The issue now, is how long the Mainland Government will tolerate these protests and riots. The city is virtually a mess now, and tourism there is at a long time low right now. America, has $80 Billion invested in just Hong Kong alone.

It is a shame that there’s so many people that are fed up with their government. I’m afraid that we are heading in the same direction.

Hong Kong is/was a large banking and stock market broker, because European rules and regulations were not valid there (Shades of the East India Company - they made their own rules up! 'being far away' from Government). Much of the trade through HK is not regulated as such.....and it also trades with markets that are not open to China!!!! So Trump shutting the US to China Goods (Tariffs) means that China is looking at other outlets (besides Africa). By suggesting extraditing dissidents - ie Capitalists.....it is trying to take over and control HK's financial Industry.
This was always going to happen after the UK withdrawal.....but obviously, Bankers expect 'special treatment' even in the face of the obvious! It probably would not effect students.....But they are young and impressionable - they are just the people to curry public outcry.
The UK kept HK and Shanghai through the Drugs Trade and by supporting warlords !!!!
The rich got richer (and still are) and most Chinese got sod all. Now China is booming perhaps it is fitting that they want control of Hong Kong.

Isn't a little bit of history knowledge wonderful.

Carrie Lam, the Mayor and Governor combined, of Hong Kong, was doing well, before she issued the extradition policy. She backed off of that policy, without the consent of Mainland China. She had no choice. Because protesters were tearing up the city, and police could not handle the unrest. And were being injured trying to quell the unrest. The protesters want her to quit her leadership job. She works at the pleasure of the Chinese Government. She says she will not resign. Wherever there are many billions of dollars being handled. Rest assure, there will be some corruption. Hong Kong is no exception. China needs the skilled money makers in Hong Kong, because they too benefit as well. The money exchanges, even work well for a Communist Government like China. Many Elite Communist Business people in China are millionaires. Rural Chinese workers still struggle today to stay above poverty in China. They don't complain though. There is a reason why?
