I've decided to sell all my Nikon to KEH except for my D850 and 5 prime lenses. And will get the Sony A7iii and a couple of primes. I'm thinking of trying the system for a few months and then just sell off the rest of my Nikons and spend that on more glass. At 72 I just feel this is the way to go. And I believe that mirrorless is the foreseeable future. Plus my Granddaughter is using mirrorless and she wants nothing to do with DSLRs. I'm sure I will be taking a loss as opposed to selling private but I've got 30 something items and I just don't look forward to selling private from past experience. Does anyone have experience dealing with KEH? They seem like a good company to deal with

From what I've heard, KEH is excellent. Lighten the load baby....as I get older, smaller & lighter looks better & better.

I have both sold and bought with KEH and find them to be honest and reliable. Their estimates of the selling price of your pieces may not be as much as you can get privately, but they are efficient and send you the check immediately on receipt of your outfit. They will pay postage both ways if they make an offer that is too low for you to accept. There's a time value in going with KEH rather than private sales and that's time for you to take more pictures!

KEH had a buying event recently at a dealer at King of Prussia, PA. They sometimes have a deal that you get 10% more if you buy something at the store. You will always take a loss when you see equipment, but I'd rather have the cash in hand than having equipment just sitting there. They actually gave me more than I expected and I used it to buy the new Tamron 17-28 for Sony. I converted to Sony from Canon after 30+ years - no regrets; one of my buddies converted around the same time. The menu takes a bit getting used to but the technology is amazing. You mentioned full fame, but they may have two new APS-C cameras coming out at the end of the month. I have also dealt with Roberts camera and found them to be quite fair. Lastly, I've had good luck with buying lenses from both. Good luck.

Why not a Nikon Z7? It suffered initially from reviewers who did not know how it was different than older Nikon cameras. Software revision 2 has made it the equal of the Sony with much better menus. It will lock focus when you set it to. It will constantly focus when you us constantly focus AFC and give you no green lock since you told it thru its controls to constantly focus at the designated focus point. Revision 2 makes it focus as fast or faster than any Nikon including the D850 bested only by the D5. Its low light focus follows that level of performance as well.

But, but, but Sony is so much smaller and lighter than all others.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing when the a7RIV comes out so please convince me that selling my 4 nikon bodies (2 FX and 2 DX) and over a dozen lenses and flash equipment and buy Sony will make me a better photographer. Also, convince me that Nikon won't be coming out with a 60mp camera to compete with the Sony as the buyers remorse will destroy me.

Sony is rumored to be selling that same A7RIV sensor to Nikon for a Z8, but you will still be better off with the Sony system as they have more Mirrorless designed lenses (50+) that don't need an adapter. I was a pro Nikon and Canon user for 40 years, yes 40 and moved over to Sony and have never looked back. Sony still has the best autofocus and tracking in the business and other exclusive features over Nikon and Canon. I am upgrading my A7RIII to the A7RIV to go along with my A9. Buying the Sony may or may not make you a better photographer, but it can help you be creative in new ways and with greater ease. I sold all my Nikon and Canon gear and went Sony and couldn't be happier I did that for both my personal and professional work.

I'm also 72 and did the same thing--I sold my Nikon d7100 and lenses to B&H and go the Sony a7iii with the Sony FE 4/24-105 G OSS lens. I'm very happy with the change as it's a whole new challenge to me. The Sony menu system is more complex than I want but once you figure out the settings you want and how to avoid hitting the wrong buttons when you shoot it works out quite well. I believe the IQ and low light performance significantly exceed what I was getting on my Nikon (yes, I'd probably have gotten that with any good full frame camera). Sony now has some interesting longer lenses that I'm looking at for the next time I go on safari.

For some of us major changes are very challenging and gratifying and add to our enjoyment of photography--hope they do for you.

Why are you not considering the Nikon Z7 and retain your glass?

The Nikon Z7 is not the same overall performer as the A7RIV.

But the OP is considering the a7III not the a7RIV.

I’d rent the Sony first to make sure it’s all you’ve dreamed of... then list your whole package here on the classifieds at 10% more than keh will go. More money is never a bad thing. Or put a dollar amount to this post you might be surprised.

I just may do that. I'm not sure what you mean by "putting a dollar amount to this post". I know they offered me 10k for my stuff and I believe the value is closer to maybe 12 or even more.

Yes. I'm not to impressed with the Z7 though the color rendition is supposed to be better than Sony. Yet I don't really need 61mp of the a7RIV. It just seems a bit much. I'm happy with 41 or 45. And that maybe too much. Haha.

Also, the Nikon A7 is about $1500 more than the a7iii and the A6 about $500 less. The Z6 is a better camera to compare to the a7iii than the Z7. If you want to compare the Z7 to a Sony then the A7RIV would be more appropriate but that's not what the OP was asking about.

Although KEH is a reputable dealer, I would not sell to them or any other dealer because you will only get about 60% of what your equipment is worth.
I have had over one hundred transactions on the FredMiranda "Buy and Sell" web site with no problems.
Just know the buyer you are dealing with by reading his "feedback" record.
Although this works for me, you may decide otherwise.
