I'm thinking about doing the same thing when the a7RIV comes out so please convince me that selling my 4 nikon bodies (2 FX and 2 DX) and over a dozen lenses and flash equipment and buy Sony will make me a better photographer. Also, convince me that Nikon won't be coming out with a 60mp camera to compete with the Sony as the buyers remorse will destroy me.

It will not make you a better photographer. It will make you a mirrorless owner.

KEH is a good and reputable company!

If one argues that Rembrandt could paint pretty well with any tools available at the time and that Ansel Adams could take great photos with any camera, I submit it means a great talent would do better with better tools! Great tools in the hands of great people produce greatness. However, great tools in itself does not produce greatness.

I've decided to sell all my Nikon to KEH except for my D850 and 5 prime lenses. And will get the Sony A7iii and a couple of primes. I'm thinking of trying the system for a few months and then just sell off the rest of my Nikons and spend that on more glass. At 72 I just feel this is the way to go. And I believe that mirrorless is the foreseeable future. Plus my Granddaughter is using mirrorless and she wants nothing to do with DSLRs. I'm sure I will be taking a loss as opposed to selling private but I've got 30 something items and I just don't look forward to selling private from past experience. Does anyone have experience dealing with KEH? They seem like a good company to deal with

I'm curious why you haven't thought of the nikon Z6 or Z7 which should take your lenses and are Mirror less, Then you wouldn't have to sell all of your existing equipment

KEH and MPB will give you a quote based on the condition you report but subject to their evaluation when they receive the equipment. Folks who buy from these dealers consistently say that the condition of the equipment they bought was much better than they expected so be aware that they may have much higher condition standards than you and may downgrade your equipment (and the quote) when they receive it. However you will have the opportunity to decline the revised quote and have the items returned to you.

I also made this move a few months ago. I sold my D5 and a few lenses and bought the Z7. It came with a free adapter so I can use my lenses. The Z7 is an amazing camera. The only thing I do not like is that you cannot lock the focus point. I use BBF and often my hand moves the focus point, but I am getting better at it.

As an option, I have traded several camera bodies to Cameta Camera on Long Island. Their trade in values have been excellent, especially when purchasing new equipment from them. My experience was that they offered me a few dollars more than KEH and their turn around time on confirming their final quotes was excellent. Totally your call - just another option for you to consider.

KEH is a well-established Georgia company specializing in used photo equipment sales. They use conservative ratings for gear. They have been more than fair to me. They feature a 180-day warranty on their gear, too.

That said, selling to KEH, MPB, Adorama, B&H, Cameta Camera, Roberts... is going to give you about 50% to 70% of used market retail price. If you’re okay with that, they are convenient places to trade.

You could list it here and perhaps do better.

You are heavily invested in the Nikon system if I understand your post above. Why not simply get the Z7 mirrorless and the adapter that will enable you to use your current glass before you leap into another system entirely. I would at least try to salvage before I scrap anything ....been there a few times?

It is a very good company but you will not be very happy with the prices they will pay you for your gear.

Why not just adapt your existing glass?

A good question, however, there are downsides such as extra weight and not all lenses will play “nice” (fulfill all functions) when attached to a different brand...

Cheers!

I made this decision at about the same age. I am happy with the move to sony mirrorless and do not miss nikon equipment at all. I went with the a6500 and a few lenses. then when the a7r3 was released I went back to full frame and high resolution and a few lenses.

there is a learning phase to go thru but it is worth it.

Why not a Nikon Z7? It suffered initially from reviewers who did not know how it was different than older Nikon cameras. Software revision 2 has made it the equal of the Sony with much better menus. It will lock focus when you set it to. It will constantly focus when you us constantly focus AFC and give you no green lock since you told it thru its controls to constantly focus at the designated focus point. Revision 2 makes it focus as fast or faster than any Nikon including the D850 bested only by the D5. Its low light focus follows that level of performance as well.

This would be the way to go, since your already familiar with Nikon's menu layout. If you want to go mirrorless, what's wrong with the Z6 or Z7?
