Infinity Photo software is the way to go these days. Agree, or not Agree?

First of all its Affinity Photo. Second, the question is based on a silly premise. The phrase "the way to go" is generally defined as "the best method for doing a particular thing". While Affinity may be a very good full featured and inexpensive tool which will meet the needs of many photographers, it is not the best method of doing anything. Some of its features are no better than those in other software and some of its features are inferior to those in other software. Its strength is the breadth of its functionality which rivals PhotoShop, but it really excels at nothing compared to its competition,

Affinity is a serious memory hogger, l wouldn't consider using it.

Just like life, there are many paths to follow - Affinity, ON1, LR, Capture1, etc.

OK, here's another criticism of Affinity that I don't think I've heard before....

Can you give us more info please?

I have software from Skylum, Topaz, and On1, but nothing on the planet comes remotely close to the overall capabilities of Photoshop. The more you learn, the more you realize you have just skimmed the surface of what is possible.

New software title on the market?

I use DXO PhotoLab 2, Capture One, On1 Raw, Lightroom/Photoshop - LR is how I manage my photo library and often the preliminary edits to an image, and for creating proof sets. DXO is for difficult images, noisy and/or in need of good perspective correction. Capture One I use with my Sony - and is the best raw converter I have used. On1Raw is good, getting better, but not quite there yet. Photoshop is the only software I use for proper image finishing, since none of the others provide a complete set of tools to do that.

With the amount of time I've spent tweaking PS and ACR code along with the applications I've written to interface with PS and ACR, I don't see moving to any other processing software. It would be as inefficient as asking me to give up the cameras I currently use and switch to entire different manufacturers.

Affinity is know to use fewer resources. This does not mean it is faster, but it does mean it will work on machines with fewer resources. Adobe products, however, on well equipped machines will out perform Affinity.

Assuming you are not already conversant in one or the other program, if you cannot afford a beast of a machine, you probably also cannot afford the monthly subscription and might want to go with Affinity. If you can afford a solid PC (or just about any $Apple product ), you can probably afford and should go with the Adobe product.

No one will laugh. You should use the software you are comfortable with, and which gives you satisfying results. If Picasa meets your requirements, who can argue with that?

The first thing I do each and every morning is grab a cup of coffee and sit on the couch and open my Ugly Hedge Hogs. I love reading most all that is written and learn so much from many of you that post. I am a Canon user so if it is about a different camera I will skip that. But today here I am reading all about what all use to PP their photos. I love taking pictures I do not sell them I do not print them nor show them. All I do is just share with all my friends on Facebook what I have seen. I am reading what all use and now I know I am WAY out of all your leagues. I use Elementals, Topaz, Topaz Studio and Topaz 2. But even though I can’t run with so many of you I will keep on reading each day.

Don't assume you are out of anyone's league. Talk is cheap and there is a lot of it here.
