(Like I inferred from the other post.)

I sometimes miss inferences.
I blame it on getting old.

Not the hottest topic here, but am interested in the answer. Is downloading the camera to a PC/tablet faster with a USB reader, or using the cable that came with the camera (Canon)? Some of my larger shooting sessions (200ish) photos, takes awhile with the cable. USB also seems easier to bring along on trips versus the cable. The USB reader would almost be 'universal' . Just wondering what the UHH crowd prefers.

A lot faster and easier for me to use the built in reader in my computer.... Once upload is verified by looking at thumbnails and file size, I put the card back into the camera and format.

IN have my external on the computer desk held on with velcro and plugged in to the computer. Fast and simple.

I always use the cable. Tried the reader a few times and didn't see any difference. They both use a USB port no the computer.

USB 3 or USB C card reader should be faster.

Most cameras made before 2018 have USB 2 ports, which are many times slower, although that is changing.

I have been shooting digital since 2000 and have never plugged a camera into a computer. I have always used a card reader of good quality.

Me too

What I know is that a “.trash” folder was created on the SD card - visible only on a non-Windows-system - regardless of where the bin is. If you don’t care, that is just fine - I will not discuss what my eyes saw.

I use the free software that comes with each camera. This way I reduce the chance of bent pins etc. Beside it is much faster. IMHO

Always used a card reader until I started having problem when downloading from a Sandisk cfast 2.0 card to my laptop. Having got nowhere with Canon and then reading of problems with Sandisk cfast cards compared with Lexar cards I tried doing something I’d never ever done before. I connected my 1DXii to my laptop with the supplied cable and it worked with no problems at all. Having a 5Dmkiv as well which uses cf cards as well as SD cards and uses the same camera cable, connecting my camera to download from the memory cards is the way I go now. I don’t find any speed issues in downloading and don’t need to take at least two different card readers with me when I go on holiday, just one camera connecting cable. I definitely recommend this method.

Could be. It probably addressed that in the directions that came with it, that I never read, of course!

Did you at least make a paper airplane out of them before they went to the great recycle bin in the sky/landfill?

Hmmm? I can see someone jamming in a CF and bending pins, you need to be extra careful with those.
But an SD???
Takes some talent or getting Murphy really pi$$ed at you to do that. Maybe have it upside down and just really push harder to force it in.

.trash is a Mac thingy. You can see it on a Windows computer. It is required by the Mac OS, but meaningless on Windows. Just leave it alone. It won't harm anything.

No! You never discard operator manuals! What else can you read after you screw up to find out what you did wrong? Isn't that why they print them in the first place?

Hmmm. I'll have to look at the card with FTP to see if it shows up there.
I only have Windows.
