Gotta love this answer...
During a traffic top
Officer: Mam your insurance paper is expired
Woman: I know I cannot pay for it.
Officer: I will have to write you a ticket for that
Woman: Why? everyone drives with no insurance!
Unfortunately, some states do not require auto insurance, so you take your chances driving there.

I remember that back home my auto insurance included coverage for uninsured motorist. I assume that it still does.
no car insurance?? which part of the Wild West is that ?
You have to pay extra for uninsured motorist and under insured motorist, but it usually isn't expensive so it's worth it.

The wild North East. New Hampshire.

Moving from Vermont to Kentucky. Same exact coverage in VT $875/year; in KY $3,200 for a 2016 F-150. The huge difference is ridiculous.
I watch a program called "Live PD" in which a camera crew rides along with various police departments across the nation. It is a very rare occasion that a driver that is stopped has a license and proof of insurance.
My most favorite segment was a fellow was checked for anything illegal on him and the police found a package of drugs in his pants pocket. When the officer asked, "What is this in your pocket?" the suspect said, "I don't know, these aren't my pants!"

New Hampshire - “Live free or die”. No insurance, no seatbelts and no motorcycle helmets required.

With no seatbelts or helmets the slogan should read “Live free and die”

Folks seem to accept mandatory auto insurance laws and the penalties levied if they don’t have it. But try that with health insurance and you’re suddenly suddenly an authoritarian demon.

Maybe it's because with mandatory auto insurance you are covering other people that you will eventually crash into but with health insurance you're only covering yourself. Maybe.

Yes that may be true, but if someone refuses to buy health insurance and then has an accident or illness which requires a long hospital stay that they can't or won't pay for, who gets stuck with all their medical bills , wait, i'll tell you. The rest of us do.

I wonder if anyone has done a study of how many people die using seatbelts, no body mentions that.

Could this have something to do with the other drivers on the road in Kentucky vs Vermont?
