These were taken at the AAU Volleyball Tournament in Orlando, Florida. Two locations were used, ESPN at Disney and the Orange County Convention Center. The tournament had 2,800 teams and 42,000 players. It was held from June 19 thru June 28. Had both boy and girl teams from 10U thru 18U.
I knew that I did not have the ideal equipment to shot this sporting event but many thanks to Jules Karney who gave me many tips and ideas. As usual the lighting in these indoor venues was less than ideal but you have to used the cards you are dealt.
Enjoy

Hello Don:
What were your settings on this shoot. It's so difficult to shoot volleyball in dimly lit gyms. I will shoot some games in a few weeks in those bad gyms. hmm. I really like the one from on top.

Can't find the 3rd and 4th shots real quick in Lightroom but the 3rd shot was taken from above at the ESPN Disney HP Field House. Was a real pain in the ass due to the lighting and the glare off the very shiny wooden floor. They also had a VERY large TV mounted on the wall behind the court with the names of all the teams being scrolled thru. Team names in black and a bright RED background. This gave a reddish/purple cast on some areas of the bright shiny floor which was also a giant pain. All of those action shots were taken at 1/800 - 1/1000 - About F5.0
and an ISO of 4,000 to 5000.
The 4th shot was taken at Orange County Convention Center. It was taken at ground level. Was having trouble with shutter speed jumping around but must have been taken about 1/320 (too slow) an F Stop of 4.0 and ISO range of 8,000 to 10,000.
Remember, I took these with a D7200 and a 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 G II ED lens. Had to really jack up noise reduction in Lightroom (65 - 75) to get noise somewhat under control.
You should get better results with your D500, don't know your lens combination.
Again, thanks for the help you gave me with these and post some of your volleyball shots when you are finished.
