This is from a trip inspired by SueScott's post "The road to Pennan".

I'm glad I went. It was a beautiful day and it's a part of the country I've been ignoring.

Rising seas, North Atlantic storms, I see an upcoming need for a seawall construction company.

You are right, James. Pennan is subjected to the full force of North Sea storms. They also have problems with the cliffs behind them deteriorating. Something tells me that shingle beach is too close for comfort on stormy nights. Thanks for commenting.

Great shot too bad about those ugly houses.

Don't build a sea wall, tear down those houses and return the coastline to a pristine condition.

Thanks for commenting, Curmudgeon. Pristine nature would tell one story, the houses and the harbour tell another story. When I see them I'm amazed that anyone would choose to build their house there, with so little between them and the various moods of the open sea. And it wouldn't do to be claustrophobic living there. The spot where I took this shot from is about 15 yards from a cliff that is a boundary to the shoreline and marks the end of the limited flat ground that's in that small corner of the coastline. And the only way in and out is via a small, very steep and very twisty road that is single track and has barely adequate passing places.

I agree and I apologize. Your story not mine. That would be a scary place to live and a lousy way to die.

Right you are. This is a beautiful area. Looks like lots of photo opportunities from the looks of things.

We spent a week there several years ago and stayed in the terrace house at the far left of the picture. There was a storm one night and the next day there was seaweed all over the seawall next to the water. The Pennan Inn is only open until October - the owners go somewhere warm for the winter! The house on the hillside seemed to be a summer place but I could never find any lane leading up to it.

The locals are probably used to having seaweed all over the street, never mind the seawall .
