When lightening occurs, an AEO Trigger will fire the camera's shutter within 3 milliseconds of sensing the light's arrival. Exposure data for this shot indicates that the shutter was open for 1.3 seconds —A lot can happen in 1.3 seconds...
Wow!!!! Amazing capture. I've shot hundreds of exposures but only captured a few bolts. Think I hear a GAS attack coming ... may want to try one of those triggers. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic - lightning flashes, clouds, and overall composition!!

Thanks, fbeaston:
I've used various approaches --the bulb technique, the interval technique and a trigger. The trigger (used in this shot) is the most reliable but I have good, sometimes great, results from all. I use an AEO trigger --it's the first brand I tried and I've never had reason to change. Lightning bolts, like grizzly bears and sharks are unpredictable. Treat them with respect and only get involved with care.
