Bill, I think your beetle may be a Buprestis rufipes beetle. Apparently it is wood boring beetle and quite a good find.

Great set of a really cool looking beetle Bill. Just got back from the dragonfly survey. Ed Lam wasn't there so I was unable to get you his book. I did however pick up a lot of Stylurus exuviae.

A large colony of sand digging Specid wasps also an interesting subject.
These are preying on the Marmorated Stink Bug, stocking tunnels for the young.
