Going to visit Galapagos in October. Looking to buy compact camera with view finder and decent zoom. What would be an adequate zoom range. Anyone have a camera with these requirements they want to sell? Thanks for any help with this.

Lumix, excellent zoom, great in my it well light areas. I use mine at concerts and carry it in my pocket and don't purchase front row seats. There is a new Lumix out.

ZS60 has the viewfinder which is an older model but I love it better than my Sony. There is one Lumix (new model) that has a view finder.

Consider Sony RX100 vi. Great little does-the-jobber.
I was in the Galapagos last May. You DO NOT need telephoto anything. You are warned to stay at least 6 feet away from the fauna. They do not see you as a threat. Since the geology is equally as interesting as the animals, wide angle is useful. Examples attached.
If you, or anyone reading this is interested, I have an Olympus Tough TG-5 to sell. I bought it last October for snorkeling and used it just that one week.

We recently returned from Galapagos, and I took a Sony a6000 for land shots and a TG-5 for underwater. If you will be snorkeling in clear water and you are lucky enough to see a swimming penguin, turtle, seal or sea lion, you will be glad to have the TG-5. If not (I wasn't), the fish are very colorful. On land I mostly used a 16-70, but wished I had brought a telephoto for a few shots of distant birds. I've posted some pics on my Shutterfly page if you're interested. Some of the underwater shots were in clear water and some in cloudy -- no guarantees, depending on where you snorkel and the weather. It's a great trip -- enjoy!

Lumix DMC-ZS60 or the newer version but these can be purchased as reconditioned or used.

very good long zoom, viewfinder, fits in my front pocket.

I use mine for concerts and have taken a number of concert photos.
