Powwow in Elmo, Montana

"Brotherhood" -- here's a look at two young men at the Native American Powwow in Elmo, MT. The colors, textures, patterns and designs of their ceremonial regalia is really something to behold! I added a bit of "oil paint" effect to bring out the colors and patterns a bit, and that's about it!

The colours are strong but there's still a softness about it, especially in the faces. I can understand why you might be a bit apprehensive about ramping up the contrast, given the strength of the colours, but if you lead with some contrast and then work on the colours after that, you might find that it gives better results (clearer details, better depth etc). You could even ramp up the contrast to the point where some of the colours need to be dialled back a bit. And if you give it some edge-based sharpening it'll bring out the details and shapes.

The colours are strong but there's still a softnes... (show quote)

Thanks for your tips! I see your point and I would agree in most cases. However, this was a very low-light situation, and I added as much contrast and hi-pass sharpening as I could without drowning it in noise. I used a fill flash, but still had a lot of work to do to get it as clear as I did. Yes, there's still some softness there, but I did what I could with a tough lighting situation and using what little I know about PS!
