We have been visiting family and grandkids in Chicago this past week and enjoying the opportunity to visit some of the great venues the city offers. We’ve been to the Field Museum, where our son is working this summer as a visiting academic researcher. So we got the private tour of course. The area around the museum is also impressive.
We spent a day at the Chicago Botanical Gardens. What an astounding park that is. Unfortunately it was a bright clear and hot day so not very conducive to photography but I didn’t really care as wandering around with family was the priority.
Yesterday my son and I enjoyed watching the Cubs beat the Reds from some tremendous seats we were able to snag. Having never been to Wrigley Field it was a treat to be at this iconic ballpark. We’ve even learned to navigate the train system which I was apprehensive about but we now know it’s quite straightforward. Today either the art museum or the architectural one, not sure. All in all a great city trip. Flying back to little Oregon tomorrow.
Nice shots.
If you get a chance, stop into Central Camera. Been there a long, long time and I think they have the first camera they ever sold still on display.
...if you can...before you leave you have to catch a show at Second City...best laughs in town...
Nice photos. We live a couple of hours from Chicago. Once in awhile I take the South Shore line in from South Bend or Michigan City, Indiana. It stops along Michigan Avenue so I don't have far to go to see the museums or downtown. Absolutely my favorite big city - so many great places to go.
I moved to Chicago in 1965, from Oklahoma. I first thought that I moved to the armpit of the world. After I got to know my way around, I started to get to like Chicago. I married a Chicago girl, and she did not want to ever leave the area. Chicago has everything you could ask for. college sports, professional sports, a world class symphony orchestra, a world class opera company, great museums, great restaurants, the best deep dish pizza in the USA, and still has a home town atmosphere. I did not mind the snow in Chicago, but I hated driving in it. I really got to love that City. My wife passed away 5 years ago, and I decide to move to Florida four years ago. I don't have to drive in snow any more. And I am finally getting use to the heat. But I really miss da Bears, and the White Sox.
I left Chicago in the early eighties. I still call it home! So many great memories of places, people and things.
In my 70's now, to old to move back. I often wish I could!
I spent many hours in the Museum of Science and Industry as a child and have visited some years ago as an adult. Love that place and no trip to the city is complete without a visit.
In all the times I've visited Chicago I have never had any problems. My son and his friends stayed overnight at some hotel downtown to watch the fireworks on the lake and had a great time, no problem. Shoot, there are places I wouldn't go in our town at night by myself. Chicago is no worse.
So enjoy yourself thoroughly! I hope you get down to Millennial Park to see the Bean.
I'm also from Oregon and visited Chicago a few years back as a birthday gift to my wife who wanted to see the King Tut Exhibit that was at the Field Museum. Also visited the Museum of Science and Industry and enjoyed the view from the Sears Tower. That view included the freeway exit where we were involved in a wreck that nearly demolished our rental car that had less than 200 miles on it. Luckily we walked away with only a few bruises.
Yes, the exhibits at the Field are incredible and I have photos nearly like yours -- I especially like the gorilla, the photo doesn't really show his size -- ours includes our son standing by the case making a face at the gorilla.
I grew up in the Midwest and we had family in the Chicago area, so I had visited the museums several times.
Did you happen to visit Buckingham Fountain for the evening light show?

i was raised in suburban Downers Grove in the 1950’s; we often drove in for music and lights at Buckingham Fountain; only many years later did I appreciate what my Dad did in making that drive.

Do not miss the Museum of Science and Industry. What other museum in the world has vast scientific wonders and a Nazi Uboat to tour and an underground coal mind etc etc.
Not to be missed.
