Maybe we just have to merge: FILM/DIGITAL/PHONE before it's too late!!!

Sorry for being a pest but as I read this conversation I keep wondering what you mean. Maybe partly since you haven't used quote reply up to this point.
What do you mean by, merge: film/digital/phone before it's too late!?

What do you call a troll who uses "Quote Reply"?

Is there anyone left who has not realized this OP is a bot?

Well, I guess that may be another new member we may never hear from again... Although he/she/it did use quote reply once.

Now, I have heard it all!!! Teaching a course in Iphone photography!!! What a crock. Who in the Hell dreamed that up? Likely some heavily tattooed, nose pierced, purple-haired Millennial miscreant. Cell phone PHD Photography is for idiots who haven't a clue as to any degree of art, composition and soul. Excuse me while I go and vomit up supper.

iPhone and other cell phone cameras are great within the context of their capabilities. I use the camera on my Samsung Galaxy 8+ all the time, but once you get out of its comfort zone it's limitations become obvious. The tiny sensor limits resolution, low light use and shadow recovery. The quality of the lenses used is another limiting factor, as is the maximum shutter speed and built in limitations to the field of view. These limitations, and many others, gives the edge to dedicated full featured cameras like DSLR's. But this in no way diminishes the usefulness of good quality cell phone cameras in a variety of situations. A skilled photography with a cell phone camera can get better results than a mediocre photographer shooting with pro gear.

Your right. What kind of a miscreant idiot would want to learn how to take photo's like the ones in the attached link. Maybe a little less anger and a bit more practicing on your part are in order so you can get results like these even with a real camera.

Welcome to the forum, Gail! Great that you can be teaching cell phone photography, I could probably use instruction myself, though I, like you, have "done it all" since '75. My friend has a Pixel II which he raves about. He also does photography for a living, and speaks highly of the quality he gets. Showed me a photo of a flower last night, and I was amazed at the clarity and detail, even when blown up. The portrait mode vignettes the outer parts and makes the photo seem like a high-quality DSLR took the photo. Hope you get some good ideas for your class, maybe have some 8x10s made from various mediums to compare quality, or even a challenge to have the students guess which ones were taken with a cell phone. (Don't pay any attention to the codgers on this site, they have pride problems.)

Why did you look in the mirror and see some one who is self serving, intolerant, judgmental and biased? Or a very sad angry person?

Difference of what quality? What does you purist by heart vs technology statement even mean?!
The basic difference between a phone camera and a dedicated camera is the phone. Take away the phone and you have a point and shoot with a tiny little lens. You are limited to what you can do with this point and shoot by that tiny little lens. Regardless of how many available controls, it is digital photography and there are plenty of electronic tools available to manipulate the digital image, your plethora of controls, unless you do something about the little tiny lens, you will be limited by it. You say you have taken several courses on iPhone photography and will be conducting a course on iPhone photography. Tell your students what you as a student, learned. What else is there.

Not to mention the tiny, little sensor.

There are three basic differences: The huge difference in the size of the sensors, the nature & construction of the lenses (not to mention the selection available for any interchangeable lens camera), and the degree of control over ISO, aperture & shutter speed.

Not mentioned yet is that phone cameras have large depths of field. Bokeh has to be produced by the software.

I have printed a 20" by 30" image taken by a cellphone. The image quality is incredibly good, and the bokeh was beautiful.
Why not a class about cell phone photography? The thousands that use cell phones, rather than DSLR's, need to use their cameras to their best advantage. Cell phones images are a part of the future for the everyday shooter, as well as many pros.

I was in the office of a friend recently and she had a 16-20 print of a valley in Italy with mountains in the background. It was such a compelling photo and tack sharp all the way through. When she told me she took it with a phone I was floored. BTW it was printed at Walmart.
Some of my better photos have been with a cellphone. I am not as concerned with sharpness as I am with capturing the moment.Sometimes all I have with me is my phone.
