I have just gotten into Milky Way photography and bought a Rokinon 14mm f2.8 manual focus lens specifically for that purpose (used on a Canon 6D). For the price, it's a pretty darn nice lens for this purpose, but does have some issues with color-cast, vignetting and chroma. Most things can be cleaned up in post, but...I've seen where Sigma has a fairly new 14mm f1.8 Art lens. I am thinking I might try to rent one from Lensrental ($88 for 5 days) and try it out. The thing looks like a real beast (and it's several times the cost of my Rokinon).
It’s always nice to rent to try out. But the Rokinon is nice.
For the money that Rokinon would be hard to beat. I bought mine on EBay for just $239. It's always a crap shoot when you buy used, especially on eBay but to my delight, the lens arrived in like new condition and works perfecly. Did not have a mark on it anywhere. I'd just like to see how much difference that extra stop of aperature would make.
