I don't get into downtown Boston too often, particularly on a Saturday when the sky, temperature, and even traffic are cooperating. Met a friend for lunch near Copley Square. Took camera with me and one lens, a 12-40 mm. Didn't stay too long after lunch but did wander around Copley for about an hour before hopping on the T to return to BC.
Just inside the main entrance to Copley Place, a mall that connects three convention hotels. What was the John Hancock Tower is now 200 Clarendon. I still think of it as the Hancock.

Designed to reflect the sky there was a Daliesque character to this scene.

Further away with the lens at 12 mm. Easier to correct the keystone distortion.

One of the bridges over the street connecting the various buildings.

Boston Public Library. First public library in the U.S. Definitely worth a stop. Impressive inside, especially the reading room.

Bell tower of Old South Church across from the BPL. Old North Church, of Paul Revere fame, is about 1 1/2 to 2 mi to the right, near Mass General Hospital.

Wrought iron fencing at Old South Church.

Display in one of the upscale stores in Copley Place that caught my eye. The background was a very blah beige. B&W conversion was the only option.

Good set. Thanks for taking us there.

I lived in Boston in the early '60s. I remember when the John Hancock building was the tallest structure around. Does it still have a weather beacon on the spire?

It does. When I worked at MGH and took the T to Somerville it was a prominent part of the view. If you remember when the Hancock was built you remember the windows falling out. Rather embarrassing. Going to have to go into town a bit more often with the camera. It was a pleasant way to spend part of the day.

Great set Fr Jack. This is my stomping ground. My office is in the John Hancock Tower building. The Landlord 'divided' the building in two for marketing purposes. 200 Clarendon St is the tower portion. The bottom 6 story 'podium' has been renamed 120 St James Ave with a separate entrance.
Really love the black and white. It has a '60's Architect's rendering look to it.
All well done.
Thanks for taking us on a tour. Very nice!

I enjoyed your boston tour, frijack...the building with the clouds reflection is awesome.
I visited boston a few years ago when my son lived there and had a wonderful time.

As a Boston native, these are very good shots, very well thought out and composed.

What a beautiful tour!
Thanks. The day was indescribably gorgeous. Gentle breeze. Low 80s. No humidity at all. Walking back to BC from Copley would not have been a bad thing.
