But on a sunflower so "Sunflower Bug" until someone who knows what is what tells me.
Saw them chasing each other an playing other mating games while filling bird feeders so they will have breakfast. I sure don't get up early enough to give them breakfast.
So I went in the house, took my 80D off the 150-600 on the tripod (it had the flash on it) and mounted the 100 mm macro. Set the camera to manual 1/800 & f/16, put the flash on High Speed Sync and ETTL (LED says it has a range of .5 meter with these settings).
80D, Canon 100 f/2.8 macro, 1/800 @ f/16, ISO 400
Center Point AF, Spot meter, hand held with just barely enough light to find the bugs.
Now I seldom post on "True Macro" esp since "Close Up" was created. A few years ago when I joined UHH there were some people on "True Macro" who constantly jumped people (including me) that some of our images were not "True Macro" because we were too far from the subject, it wasn't a "true" 1:1 lens etc etc I have a bit of a temper at times so though I still subscribed and looked at the pictures on "True Macro" I never posted here and sometimes warned people away from it. I posted my macro shots in Photo Gallery and Close Up. Well these are shot with a Canon 100 Macro, I set it on its closest focus and moved the camera until the bug came in focus for some of the shots and tried AF on others, still as close as it would focus. These bugs are under 1/2" but bigger than 1/4". These were my two best and I consider them to be above average but not great. Even at f/16 the DOF sucks and the plants w/bugs were moving too much in the breeze to try a stack so I went for higher SS and HSS flash.
Weird looking critters. They seem to have wings, do they fly? They look a bit Beetle-like but not like any Beetle I've seen before. You need an Entomologist. I've been confined to the indoors so much lately I have no idea what sort of odd ball insects are out and around in So. Calif. right now.
Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter leafhopper (Homalodisca vitripennis).
vineyard death on the wing..........nice shots
I saw them fly from one plant to another.
If I get an ID I just hope it isn't some invasive species that will have the state Ag people here nuking my yard.

Ah, thanks for the ID.
I trust the state Ag folks will not descend on my yard with flame throwers and nukes.
Thanks for the ID approval.

Good thing I don't have a vineyard. I do have a dwarf mandarin orange tree and dwarf avocado tree in really large pots.
If I don't let the neighbors or cops see me I guess I could get out the BB pistol or Air Soft gun and use them for target practice. I don't want to spray because I have lots of birds, bees and butterflies coming to my yard at times.
Nice images. Looks like the ID is spot on.
Very nicely shot Robert and an interesting critter. I hope you continue to post here.
Very nice. I enjoy seeing the variations of Leaf and Tree Hoppers and I find them to be very cute although they are considered to be pests that suck the juices out of the plants.
TRY a soap type sray , or windex , this could nuke them .
