really good stuff, and I had never seen the top of a backswimmer before! Your lesser water boatman is one of our 'water striders'.

I now think this is also a Strider, that was my first thought when I saw it but the shape seemed wrong as I had only ever seen long bodies ones. Now I have found another photo on the net the same as mine and that is a strider. Thanks.
