Back in 2011, I visited, along with a small group, the Shibanxi narrow gauge steam railway in Siushuan (sp?) province, China. We spent several days in a little village, Bhagou. Very little going on, and the area was very poor, but the people seemed quite happy. Chinese food in China is NOT like Chinese food in the USA.
Wonderful photos ... I've always hoped to travel in China one day. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, thanks for the tour!
Enjoyed the tour. Looks like a very poor area.

Great photos. I love China. Highlights over the years have been:
1. Harbin ice festival, January and February, different ice buildings every year. Besides the night visit for the lights, visit during the day and ride the world's longest ice slide.
2. Of course, the Great Wall. But besides Badaling, visit Jinshanling and hike 4 kilometers on top, less crowded too.
3. Forbidden city, Beijing.
4. Plank walk, Hua Shan (fast train from Xi'an). Just Google it.
5. Xi'an, teracotta warriors. Besides the 3 pits, make sure you visit the exhibition halls. And ride a bike on top of the city walls.
6. Hike Huangshan and pray for clear weather.
7. Longji rice terraces.
8. Jiuzhaigou (and Huanglong) national parks.
9. Zhangjiajie park and don't miss Tianmen mountain in the city (google Range Rover sport dragon challenge).
10. Li river cruise, Yangshuo.
Get a 10 year visa. Yes, you're only going once, but same price as a 1 year, and you'll be back. So much to see and do. Lonely Planet China guide excellent source. 7DaysInn and Super 8 clean and comfortable chain hotels.

First time I went was 2003. Did a tour of steam railways with 3 other guys. I used to make train videos for a living, so when I get my time machine I will go back to Jingpeng Pass, TOTALLY awesome, and the Wehu forestry railway, in winter of course. Next trip was to Beijing, my guide found a family restaurant in an old part of the city behind the hotel. Magnificent food and seriously inexpensive. Since the day we arrived was my birthday, we did all the tourist stuff, Tienamen, forbidden city, temple of heaven etc etc. last day we did the Great Wall. Since I was working, which paid for the trip, we stayed in Beijing. Third trip was the Shibanxi Railway.
Wow. Those are great. You've captured the milieu and more.
An excellent set of photos, even better in download. Interesting subjects, and thanks for posting.
Great shots! China is definitely on my bucket list...
Great photos! Looks like other parts of Asia I've been to where there are no regulations on where or how people live. The river is the town sewer and bath tub...no trash pick-up, refuse etc. goes out the window/into the stream...

What a beautiful village. I hate to imagine what all goes into the stream, though....
Wonderful images. I thought it interesting that the area has electricity considering the overall primitive conditions. Must have been a wonderful trip.
