I have taken hummingbird photos with everything from 10.4mm pocket camera to 1200mm monster, and a lot in between. Today I have been experimenting with an old Minolta 135mm f/2.8 lens. It's a favorite because the the "AF Range Control limiter" built into my A99II camera works very well with this lens. I'm able to keep the background out of focus and auto-focus on the bird when she arrives.

Looks best on the download.

Thank you. Here is another taken at the same time. That little lens has been nick named the pocket rocket by it's fans. It's screw drive focus but works very well. It small enough that that that you could drop it in your front pocket. Notice the spider webs it's carrying back to it's nest.

Beautiful. What a determined look on that tiny bird.

I see that and it’s tongue is locked and loaded!

Most of the photos I take have their tongue sticking out. I think it's because I lure them to a spot where my camera and flashes are pointed. When the flashes fire they sometimes make a run for it but my camera focus has already locked on to them. They engage their wings prior to winding in that long tongue.

Thank you for the comments. I have two more lens I want to try today, a Sony Planar T* 85mm f/1. 4 ZA and a Sony Macro 100m f/2.8 Macro FF.

I'm trying to find one that will give me a little more DOF.

I am interesting in your technique for getting such nice images. Would mind sharing your camera settings and flash setup?
