Belted Kingfisher
300mm PF with 1.4 extender.
Rare when I do, and never a long enough lens when I see these guys!
So a little soft, but the best I've gotten of them so far.
They look pretty good to me...nice capture!
Think we have all been there. Use what we have available to us. Sometimes a little softness is the price we pay for trying to capture an opportunity that may not present itself again. Nice shots anyway.

Thanks for looking & commenting!
When I get photos like this I keep them and enjoy them until I can get better ones of the same subject. Not bad at all although soft. Better than any Kingfisher photos I have by a long shot.
Nice catch. These are very fast small birds and they are shy too. But your white balance is way off. I see that your camera was set for auto w/b but for some reason it's not doing a very good job. I took it into PS and set w/b to auto. I hope it looks better to you.
Thanks all!
Jeepdaddy: I've noticed some strange things happening. I think it's when I have the MB-D18 attached. Sometimes the focus buttons won't work & occasionally on review the button I have programmed to zoom won't work & the screen blacks out. Shutting the camera off & on seems to correct that, but it will come back unannounced. WB on auto is usually very good with this D850. I went back into my raw import in LR, and the WB was off there, so it was in the camera, not my possible cataracts. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I would bring that to Nikons attention. That camera should do way better than that with the Auto W/B. It's almost like Tungsten has been chosen instead of auto...
This is the first time I've had a WB problem. It could very well have been something I did in PP when I came inside with my progressive glasses darkened. Also, I had to lighten the shadows considerably as the sun was on the left & the birds were very dark. I'm thinking it was my mistake in PP. Personally, I think the photo you "corrected" was a little too washed out as far as WB, and as far from the original I shot as the one I posted..

Fair enough. But all I did was correct the W/B. I didn't do any other post processing. It was not my intention to show you my skills in Photoshop but to simply show you that your w/b was off. I hope it was just a processing error on your part. That D850 is Nikons second best camera on the market today and I just thought it was weird that your picture was so blue.
