Affinity Photo Selection Refinement Fix – version 1.7.2.414

I recently switched from Adobe to Affinity. My first exposure to Affinity Photo is version 1.7.1.404.

I have found it to be quiet robust and works really well for needs. However when refining a section in version 1.7.1.404 it is very slow. Not simply slow but sloooooooooooooooooooow.

It bugged me so much that I did some research and found that Affinity had received numerous complaints on this issue. They have reverted the refinement selection tool back to version 1.6 in version 1.7.2.414.

Per their website it “is a beta and considered not suitable for production use.”

I’ve installed it and it solved my problem. The refinement selection tool works as it should.

You can read about it and download a copy here:

Do you regret not paying $/M to Adobe?

There’s lots to learn in Affinity. I recently bought Robin Whalley’s book on Affinity. It’s organized for a beginner and in workbook format. I got the e-edition and am finding it very useful. The YouTube videos make more sense after nailing the basics.

I will humbly admit to having an Adobe addiction. I’m not sure if the Adobe disease is called an “iitis,” a syndrome, a poisoning, or even a schizophrenia of some sort. I do know that it is a disorder prompting other than Adobe software Intolerance and other options amnesia.

So, yes, it feels good to be off the subscription band wagon!

Thanks for asking!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll take a look.

I purchased a couple of courses from Udemy that have been very helpful.

Simon Foster – “Affinity Photo: Beginner to Pro via Reference and Workflow”
Simon Foster – “Affinity Photo: Raw Image Development”

The workflow course is broken down into two sections – tutorials and reference.
The reference section is great because if you have a specific question about a specific tool he covers it in a short (5-10 minute) video.

Yep! Lots to learn!

Thanks!
