For travel, especially if you do some video consider the Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS. It is a reasonably priced lens and in my opinion the best for most travel. I also like the 10-18 for city type travel. I own both but not interested in selling, sorry.

Thanks for the insights. I am an advanced beginner with the Sony a6000 and 16-50 and 55-210 kit lenses. We are going to Alaska and I want less lens-changing and more reach. Have researched options in a modest price range and experimented with Clear Image Zoom feature. I think CIZ will have to suffice as budget and time preclude super zooms. So I was thinking the 135 would give a bit more distance than 105. Probably a minor boost so something to consider. Thanks. Also looking at 18-200 LE OSS. Have not had success with metabones or mc-11 adapters.

My favorite lens at the moment for "long reach" is actually the Sony FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G OSS. Gives me 110-450 on my A67500.

If renting and you want to shoot birds or seals at a great distance, this is very good. Shots compared (to my eyes) to the 70-200 GM which I have also and am selling since I dont use it at all! Much heavier than the 70-300.

For a "one lens" solution the 18-135 would be good. I have also used the 18-200 and its ok, but the 18-135 seems to be better reviewed.

I purchased the 18-135 lens earlier this year, and I am very happy with this lens. It is sharp and focuses quickly. With CIZ, it gives you up to an equivalent of 270mm reach (in JPEG, only). But don't discount the 55-210. It's a good one, despite what some say about it. For a relatively inexpensive lens, it performs well, even though it's not particularly fast, and with CIZ it reaches out to 420mm. I think the 18-135 is an excellent all around lens for your trip, and the 55-210 would be good for that extra reach for wildlife and birds. If you want even farther reach, you might consider a tele-convertor, such as a 1.4 or even a 2.0 TC. They'll cut your light down, but in good light, you'd be fine. With CIZ on the 55-210 lens, that would net you a reach out to 840mm equivalent.

Excellent choice. I have the same lens - the 18-135 OSS - and it is as a really excellent lens. I set the ISO to 400, use aperture priority and try to use the lens stopped down 2 stops from maximum aperture. I took it to Alaska too and it was perfect for most shots. The OSS - lens stabilization - worked very well too.

You will not be disappointed.

Cheers
