Bye Bye Camera is an iOS app that detects and removes human figures from your photo and fills and extrapolates from the surroundings to fill in the background. I took a couple of selfies to test it and it gave mixed results. I'm sure it would do much better on a regular scenic or street scene. Could be a boon for tourists - another reason to start thinking of your phone as a travel camera.
Sorry - it only works on photos - it won't make your mother-in-law really disappear or send her home !!!

Another app that does this is Spectre....removes people and other moving items like cars and animals. I use the app for hand held long exposure waterfalls.
