Going to Israel for 8 days this November. I need to take a wide angle to medium telephoto zoom with me. I will be using a crop sensor D7200. Need something light since I'll be carrying it all day. The ones I have are too heavy to lug around all day. F4 or better. Thanks in advance for your ideas....

I have an older 28-200 f3.5-6.0 that I use on my D7200 as a carry around.
I works well for me. I'm 73 yrs. old and not in the best of health.

I also have a 18-300 f3.5-6.5 that normally I use on a D500 that also works
well on the D7200, although is a bit heavier.

I don't know Nikon as I shoot with Canon. I use a 24 x 105, f4.5 lens on a Canon EOS 5D Mklll body. It's light weight and a good glass. If Nikon has something similar, then i would recommend that.

In addition to the lenses you mention, take a fast prime, 35mm or wider or even a 50mm, f1.8 minimum. You will need it in some of the Churches and shrines where you won’t be able to use a tripod or flash. I was there a couple of years ago. It was one of my favorite places to visit and hope to get back.
You will love it, it’s very special, no matter what your religious beliefs!

Have you looked at Nikon's 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5? On your D7200 it would give you the equivalent angle of view of 36-127mm. It is very sharp and lighter (and less expensive) than the 24-120mm.

If you're looking for something relatively light that's wide angle to medium telephoto zoom, you might consider the Nikkor 18-140 f/3.5-5.6. It's fairly light, sharp and reasonably fits your requirements. Anything longer than that will be fairly heavy. It's what I used on my D7200 and was very pleased with it.

The Nikon 16-80mm f/2.8-4 DX would be good for your D7200. It's fairly light and has the maximum aperture you're looking for.

I used a 16-85 on my Nikon d7000 most of the time when touring National Parks and it worked perfectly.

I agree with the above comments. I don’t think you can go wrong with either the Nikon 16-80 or the 18-140 . Just another thought,the Tamron 18-400 is a little on the big side ( not that bad ) and would be a good all around lens.

Check out a sling style camera strap. Adjusted properly it minimizes the weight on your neck. At least I think so.

I can say that an extremely good DX choice for me was the 18-200 f3.5-5.6 VR. I have one on my D7100 that was converted to IR, and my wife has one on her D5000. Advantages are relative light weight to focal range (8.3X zoom), moderate price, good image quality, automatic lens corrections in post processing software, and lens ruggedness. I have first hand experience with 3 different 18-200s, all are very good for our use.

When I got my 7200, it came with a kit lens 18 - 140, which is a great lens by the way. It's a 3.5- 5.6. to me it's light enough that it pretty much is my walk around. This lens fits your description.

I can't really answer your question as you asked it. What I can do is suggest something else for your consideration. I made the same trip last November. I am so glad that I had that opportunity. Never been before, and because of age and other considerations will probably not get a second opportunity.
If I were one of the young guys (50-60years), I would have been happy carrying my Canon 7D Mark II, but due to my age (84) I was concerned about carrying the weight of that body plus two heavy lenses all day, every day. Remember, there is no level ground in Israel on which to walk very far.
Given the cost of the trip of a lifetime, I decided to spend a bit more for a camera that would meet my needs without breaking the bank. I purchased a Canon M50 (mirrorless) in a kit with a 15-45mm and a 55-200mm lenses. What a difference in weight. 95% of my images were captured wit the 15-45. I used a shoulder sling and was never bothered by the weight.
The resulting images captured were very acceptable. I have on enlarged to 16-20, framed an hanging on a wall in my home. I consider it to be among the very best images I have ever captured.

I was in Israel a couple of years ago with a ff Canon and a 16-35 f4 lens. That was it. There were a couple of places I wanted a longer lens, but very few. I also had a Sony rx100 v, which gave me a little more reach, but not much. Even with a wide angle lens, you will have more range. When I used Nikon DX cameras, I liked the 16-85, though you may want a faster lens, a lot of my shots were interiors and the Canon F4 with IS worked well. I am sure others who know more about Nikons will have better advice.
