TriX, I worked as an engineer, fabricator, and road crew for a team that raced SCCA and IMSA. Some very exciting times. We finished second place nationwide one year in SCCA and got driver of the year award one year. Nicely the owner/driver of the car called all of the team up on stage and said how much we were responsible for providing a car that was dependable and fast. It was a team effort and not just the driver. Great times during the 5 years the team was together. Oh, the car was a Datsun 200SX.

Thanks Bob, the one I looked at was at a Lincoln dealership as well.

I actually had a “run in” with one on the street one night. I was driving a 73 911E, and a drunk in a Pantera side swiped me down an exit ramp and took off. I chased him down at 100+ and when I hit the high beams on the Ampliluxes while on his back bumper, he stopped. He begged me not to call the cops (he was on the way home with a girl), so I took his DL for security, and the next day we settled up. Might have been a different outcome if he had been sober as the Pantera had the edge in both power and suspension (although the 911E was quick for the time).

Kinda wish I had either bought the Pantera or kept the 911 - both are worth almost 10x what they cost today.

Glad to know you put it on the track - I raced SCCA and IMSA, but not successfully 😹.

Cheers

If you could have any one car old or new, what would it be?

Attach a picture of your choice if you like.

I know I would have trouble selecting just 1 above another;
but sometimes tough decisions just have to be made.

Sorry, I can't pick just one.
A. my first car - 54 Buick Century with a 55 Buick Roadmaster v8
B. my first new car (ordered from GM rep at PX in Nam and picked from a dealer by LAX 2 weeks later when I was a civilian again) - 69 Chevelle Malibu 4 door with slightly souped up 350, dual carbs and highway patrol cruiser package. At its best cruising the interstate at 70+. Great cross country car

I had already considered this question, and my answer is my choice for most beautiful car - a 427 Shelby Cobra. The problem would be affording to insure it, since they are worth millions.

Cool. I drove a C/SR 1600cc OSCA in SCCA and a BMW 2002 in IMSA. Had better luck crewing with Miller and Norburn who ran a very competitive 2002 in IMSA and won lots. M&N was the US distributor/team for Alpina, and we were way ahead of most of the competitors in the 70s as we had an engine dyno, flow bench, etc. We just ran away from the Minis, Mustangs, etc in our IMSA class.

I've always been a Chevy man and there are lots of great Chevy's to choose from but, if I could have my dream car it would be a streetable 3rd gen Ford GT, followed by a USA made 1st Gen Ford GT 40.

Guess I am different in that I am not really a car buff. I have a sports car, an SUV and a regular vehicle and a new Goldwing cycle and none are super special to me. I have always thought I would like to have a car built that looked so rugged, rusty and beat up on the outside that no one would like to park close to it or consider stealing it but would smell like fresh leather on the inside. I don't want the exterior to really be in bad condition, just made to look that way. I don't want to impress others as I drive by but want the comfort factor built for the interior riders. Show off just not my style.

The new mid-engine Corvette, lessons at the Skip Barber racing school, and track time at Lime Rock.

My 1st car at 16 was a 1949, 3/4 ton Studebaker truck. Dad's thought was I couldn't get in trouble with it, he was right.

My dream car is a 1948/49 Studebaker Commander convertible.
I would happily trade my Mercedes for one.

A very pristine two-tone , red and white 1955 Buick Century would please my desire extremely well.
