I am the owner of a Nikon D7200. Recently, I have experienced shutter lag when in aperture priority mode with the flash flipped up. I experience the same thing in shutter priority mode. It has never done this in the past and I cannot figure out in the settings what is causing the problem. Any suggestions?
Is it only happening in those two modes? Auto, P and Manual work without lag when the flash is up?
Lag is in every shot? or from the second and beyond? (thinking of lag caused by recycling time of flash)
Are you using LiveView? If so, try turning it off and see if it still happens.
Maybe red eye reduction is enabled?
I don’t know if there is lag in manual mode. I haven’t tried that. But in the other two modes, A & S, there is lag from the first shot.

Go into section "a Autofocus" in your menu system and check to see what settings you have for "a1" and "a2".
If the settings for "priority selection" are set to "focus" then the shutter will not fire until focus is acquired. If the lighting of your subject is too low then there may not be sufficient light to drive the AF system in the timely manner you are expecting.
Thanks for the suggestion. They were both set to release so I don’t think that’s the problem.

Check caregully what is going on with your camera. I have recently had different, but related problems with both a D850 and a D500 that required factory service. My D500 developed problems with the viewfinder display (the artificial horizon did not clear when turned off) and when using a flash, instead of gtting a quick pre-flash followed by the shutter release, there were three sequential flashes, then finally a shutter release after a total of about two seconds. I don't know what the fix is going to be for the D500, but the D850 required replacement of a mask in the viewfinder, a connector, and a flexible circuit board. All under warranty.
I am wondering if there is some design weakness in the prism area of some of the newer models. I'l update with more detail on the D500 when it gets back from Nikon.
By the way...both of these were warranty repairs.

Another thought. Under the Custom Settings Menu -> "d Shooting/display" -> "d4 Exposure delay mode" make sure this setting is OFF.
Thanks. I just checked that and it’s off. I’m beginning to think it’s a software issue with the camera that will require Nikon service.
