Shutter Release for OM-D EM10 MarkIII?

I am hoping to photograph some fireworks around the 4th of July. I have a brand new Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III and have been having problems locating a shutter release for this camera. Apparently they have changed the cable ports since the Mark II. I do have the Olympus app on my iPhone. That apprently works via wifi, but I will be shooting in a field somewhere. Would it work on my LTE cellular? Does anyone know of a remote shutter release, either with or without cable, that will work on this camera?

Thanks.
JB

I just checked Amazon and they show remote releases from JCC and Pixel - both wireless and with a cable that appear to work with the OM-D EM10 Mkiii. Check them out and read any user reviews carefully. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve scoured Amazon pretty thoroughly and the ones I’ve seen fit the OM-D EM10 Mkii, not the Markiii. Apparently they have changed the ports on the camera.

I di have that Olympus app on my iPhone and have paired it with the camera. Just not sure how that works if I am not in a space with wifi.

Sorry about that. The camera is the WiFi source the phone needs to connect to the camera.

Ah, thanks. I will try to see how that works. I know I set it up on my iPhone and linked it to the camera. That may work well.

You do not want to have to rely on a software interface in a critical shooting situation. Loss of signal, Bluetooth takes a dump, and you are up a creek. Get the mechanical shutter release.

Ufauxreal - You may not have looked closely enough. Here are just two of the ones I saw. The first by Pixel is specifically designed for OM-D cameras. The second by JCC specifically mentions that it works with the Oly OM-D EM10 Mk iii. Just trying to help, but if you are so set on using a tenuous wifi connection...

Rjaywallace, thank you for those links. The first one by Pixel specifically says at the bottom, NOT compatible with the MarkIII. However the second one does state it would be compatible and I will order it and give it a try. I’ll update once I’ve tried it, in case anyone else has the same question.

Replying to my own message. I was about to order the shutter release made by JJC but noticed it was not eligible for Prime and was clearly being shipped from outside the US, since it would be there between July 12 and Aug. 2. So I did a bit more searching and found this one: https://www.amazon.com/Shutter-JJC-Release-Controller-Olympus/dp/B00B8OGMZO which IS Prime eligible and does say it is compatible with the M10 MarkIII.

This is from Olympus website: Remote Cable Release (RM-UC1)

Slightly off topic but I THINK the Oly 10D miii has Live Composite mode which is perfect for fireworks. Essentially camera is set in the mode, you press shutter button and camera takes multiple pictures only adding new light into the image. It works great on star trails. It allows the photographer to take exceptional shots even if there are other lighted areas that would normally blow out the shot. So, a release is really not needed . I mess around with the mode once in a while. Lots of fun.
