An interesting effect. it would also be interesting to see if you could nudge it towards having a more pleasing mix of colours.

Everyone's taste varies with regard to composition, colors and more. To me the colors are pleasing or I wouldn't have posted it. Please feel to change the image in any way you want and post it, I am always open to improving my techniques and abilities.

Your colouring didn't seem so bad once I'd lightened yellow and orange. Most of what I did was an attempt to remove the mushiness, especially with the yellow/green tint. I was tempted to go overboard with a glowing purple and blue background tint, but as you said, it comes down to personal preferences. The banding is due to the jpeg download being pushed and pulled.
But I still think the orange/yellow/green benefited from some lightening. Perhaps it's a difference between our screens' brightness, or perhaps I just grew an aversion to sunset skies looking like luminous mustard.

The black areas were annoyingly unresponsive, but enough of the background responded enough to hint at the possibilities. I've no doubt some work with layers would give a background consisting entirely of glowing blue/purple.
