iPhone to laptop video storage

I am new to iPhones. I wanted to save my iPhone videos onto my laptop to make room for more pictures to be taken on my phone. I noticed after pulling them off my phone it wanted me to download something else. I'm assuming it is some sort of interpreter from apple to "normal". Sorry, mac lovers. I thought that odd as I have been able to view iphone pictures on my laptop.

You do know that iPhone files are not always in .mov format don't you? The newest phones also do a format called .heic for photos and .hevc for videos. This has been the format used since ios 11. I have iMac and windows computers and if I remember rightly my windows computer had to have a program installed to convert the Apple files from .hevc to .mov files to be seen on my windows computer.

On your iPhone go to pictures in settings and you will find a stetting that you can enable that instructs the iPhone to download in a capable format.

Correct. I’ve had no problem downloading iPhone photos or videos to my PC. Windows wants its Photo app to do the work but I close that and go to File Explorer and navigate to the iPhone DCIM folder to get the photos.
