This works but I am puzzled as to why. Was it created from two separate captures or was it a 2D-3D conversion?

I would have expected to see the cyan to the left for the distant elements and to the right for nearby elements. Throughout the image the cyan view is to the right of the red image, just not by the same degree. I'll have to study this some more.

This was two separate captures and it is a puzzle. You would think the entire image should be out front of the screen. I've still got the two captures. I think I'll re-create this and slide the cyan image to the left and see what happens

I played with a pair of my own and was able to replicate the situation.

My usual approach to alignment is to pick a matching point part way into the image. The result is what I expect - some of the result is on my side of the screen (red to the left) and some of it behind the screen (cyan to the left).

But if the alignment is shifted horizontally so that the cyan is always to the right, the 3D is still apparent and our mind-eye perception shifts the image so that it looks "normal".

I will post my result in a separate thread: 3D - Two images with misaligned horizontal separation.
