Going to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg in October, looking for ideas and suggestions of things to do and places to photograph. We have been up there many times but are looking for things we might have missed. Anyone ever take any of the tours of the area and are they with taking? All ideas and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

I saw on the news last week that in Gatlinburg up the tram they just opened a waling bridge over a deep canyon and in the middle of the floor of the bridge is glass so you can look down if you can stand the height. The upside down building in Pigeon Forge catches you eye.

My favorites are Cade’s Cove during morning light, Roaring Fork Loop and Morton’s Overlook at sunset. You can find several photography guides online that are worth checking out while you’re in the planning stage. Good luck and enjoy the Smoky’s

I like SnappyHappy's list, and would add Clingman's Dome as a must for either sunrise, sunset or night photography. Other places I like to visit are the Blue Ridge Parkway, Newfound Gap overlook, laurel falls, and the Greenbrier area. There is so much scenic and water areas of the park that almost roadway will have good shots. Best wishes for a good trip.

On a clear night, make the short steep walk up to Clingman's Dome. At around midnight and preferably on a full moon. Probably no one will be there and you'll have the place to yourself. The highest point in the Smokies and a 360-degree panorama. If you are into night photography? Just make sure it is a CLEAR night.

If you haven't done so already, you should drive the Cherohala Skyway over to the Joyce Kilmer National Forest. It's not that far from the Park and even if it's out of the way, it's still a must do. It's south of the Park.

Don’t miss Roaring Fork at dawn. Beautiful stream with rising mist, great long exposures on the stream, fall colors too

The whole month of October is Southern Gospel Music Month at Dollywood. The admission allows you to listen to many different groups that are in the various venues. Check the Dollywood website to see who's playing when.

Clingman's Dome is a short drive from Gatlinburgh via Newfound Gap in the Great Smokey N.P.Plenty of photo ops on the drive up to the pass. Then you can drive up to Clingsman Dome and the wonderful lookout tower which is also handicap accessible.Plenty of photo ops on the way up to the pass. Just google photos from Newfound Gap and Clingsman Dome.

I went in late October and went to Cades Cove. A drive up yielded an interesting mix of fall and winter. As we climbed, we found frost line and got some great images. Need to go early in the AM.

"Street photography" and people-watching in Dollywood! An embarrassment of riches!
