I thought: no way

I posted this picture about a week or so ago to see if anybody knew what font this was. Thanks to everyone who responded but nothing worked. I was showing it to my wife and she said I'll bet that was done in PowerPoint. Now knowing she is no computer geek I instinctively blurted out, NO WAY! But, to humor myself I did a google search. Well sheepishly I have to admit that's probably how the text in the picture was created. There is a pretty good video showing how it's done. Now I guess I'll have to eat crow for a few weeks: AGAIN! I seem to be getting fed that more and more in my retirement years.

PowerPoint, I'm not surprised. I have not touched MS-Powerpoint in many years, not since I was either a student or teacher. I have not really bothered much with 3D lettering in PhotoShop. Unless you've kept up with the changes Microsoft has tweaked MS-Office a lot over the years. The latest versions (at least 2019) of MS-Word and MS-Excel have a built-in photo editor. Very basic but it has some nice digital filters that differ a bit from those with Ps.

I have not been a fan of fancy fonts for many years. I moved from PA to MA in ‘82. Every Christmas we would drive to PA. On the way we would pass a motel. It was dark and the sign used a fancy font. It was about ten years before we figured out the name of the motel. The best we could do was to call it the “Ragweed Motel”. Eventually we we passed it in the daylight and found it was the “Redwood Motel”. It has since gone out of business.

In addition I prefer serif fonts to non-serif. That came about through computer programming. When you define a variable the identity of the characters is important. A single vertical stroke could be an upper case “I”, a lower case “L” or a “1”. Put in the wrong character and the program won’t know what you mean. And variable names are not always recognizable words so you can’t always guess what it should be.

Yes, even fonts from the pre-computer graphics days can be hard to read. Ever try reading the lettering on many The Grateful Dead and The Quicksilver Messenger Service LP albums from the 1960s and 1970s. Some I still can only guess at. And what does "Aoxomoxoa" actually mean? It is not printed in the font I just used either.

Like I responded to your original post......this is not a font. It is an effect created in some program from a simple font. You found the program that could do it. Hooray!!

I'm not sure that it's a real word. It could have been made up for the album cover graphics, Note that it is spelled the same backwards as it is forwards.

Thanks, I will definitely be able to use some of that stuff in some of the greeting cards I make.
