Actually, Panasonic and Olympus (started winter 2008 and spring 2009) are the mirrorless leaders with Sony making the sensors for them. I suspect that is why Sony went mirrorless so early; they were able to read the "writing on the wall".

I would suggest that camera companies like Olympus, Panasonic and Fuji are well out of the teething time. No, I would not buy a mirrorless Nikon or Canon right now, but I think that aside from Olympus menus, the mfolks are ahead of the pack, and Fuji is a remarkable company. And Sony's getting there.

Did you read this wrong or did I? I read that Fuji had the biggest year over year percentage increase, but still own the smallest piece of the pie.

Burkphoto is correct. The X-T3 is smaller that FF and will save you some weight. The biggest savings would come from going to 4/3rds. Both Olympus and Panasonic are available, but since you indicated you will be doing video, Bill's suggestion for Panasonic's G85 is appropriate (or GH5). Both Olympus and Panasonic can do video, but Panasonic does it just about better than anyone else. Just ask Bill at Burkphoto since he shoots video for his living.

Considering that the best photographers are in Japan, that's a notable point. Buy/Use what the Japanese use first.

Save some money and start out with either the Olympus OMD E-M5 markii which features great weather sealing, and in camera image stabilization, or the older Sony A6300 which has a weather sealed body, stronger mount and better EVF than the A6000 and Sony's lenses are mostly image stabilized. Both of these models are older and significant savings can be had, yet the image quality is top of the line on both.

Umh, did this deal as you wrote actually change, ggenova? I ask because I bought it from Adorama last year for $998, which included the a7 mk II, a 28-70 mm lens, and a host of useful little goodies.

Specifically, I'm referring to the range of focal lengths of the provided lens. Did you purchase this deal? Was it actually with a 24-70 mm lens provided?

I love my X-T3, and carry it everywhere. You can't go wrong.

This is not a recommendation just my experience: Was a Canon user for many years until two years ago when we took a riverboat trip to Normandy and I took my canon 6d with several lenses. Got some great shots But was frazzled by the time we returned. Decided then that I needed some lighter gear. After much research decided on the Olympus omd1 mk2. Last year we went to Spain/Portugal for twenty four days and I carried the camera with me every day. Mostly shot with 12-40mm F2.8 lense and got some great shots but also used a 40-150mm when necessary. The menu takes some getting used to but is manageable. With the 5x ibis it's easy to get along without a tripod. Just turned 89 and am waiting to see what the mk3 will bring.

Definitely consider the Olympus EMD1 MkII for reasons that others have already indicated. These include:
- Solid construction and complete weather-proofing of body and lenses - an important consideration for outdoor photography;
- Compactness and light weight;
- Excellent quality lenses. The Oly PRO lenses (e.g., 40-150 mm f/2.8; 300 mm f/4) are among the best and sharpest on the market;
- Dual image stabilization (for some lenses), making it much easier to get good shots, e.g., in low light situations;
- Many (some say too many, but I don't think so) options to customize camera based on your needs and usage;
- First class, responsive after sale customer/repair service;
- And more.....
